Illion bank connection

When getting set up as a new customer (part of onboarding to Shift), customers are asked to connect their banking data via ‘Illion’. This is a bank connection method that uses a customer’s bank login to provide read-only access to transaction data. This allows us to review the recent banking activity and calculate and offer an initial credit limit.

  • Provides historical transaction data up to the latest refresh
  • Transactions are refreshed periodically
  • Supports a “streaming” status when transactions are kept up to date
  • PDF bank statements generated from the connection can be downloaded in platform
  • Customers can connect their bank accounts using their bank login credentials

PDF bank statements (fallback option for assessment)

If a customer can’t connect their banking directly, they may be offered the option to upload six months of PDF bank statements for assessment. This generally supports the initial assessment only, but may be used for future assessments when required

Bank data is required to provide limits, as approvals are based on real transactions and business activity.

If a direct connection isn’t possible, customers may be asked to upload PDF bank statement into Shift Online for assessment. For ongoing business assessment and continuous credit, establishing a bank connection is essential.

Data security using Illion

Illion provides read‑only access to bank transactions in a secure way, without giving Shift or Illion the ability to access or control a customer’s bank account. Illion can only view transaction history, not interact with the account in any way. All financial data retrieved through Illion is protected using industry‑standard encryption.

What Illion can do:

  • Access a read‑only feed of bank transactions and balances.
  • Provide ongoing transaction data for credit assessment and in‑life monitoring.
  • Act as a data connector between your customer’s bank and Shift Online.

What Illion cannot do:

  • Make payments or transfers.
  • Change bank details.
  • Move or withdraw funds.
  • Act on behalf of your customer.
